it is way to remember the distributive property which is
a(b+c)=ab+ac
if you are so desperate to use the foil meathod as you call it, then
FOIL
First
Outer
Inner
Last
so you multiply the first terms
multiply the outer terms
multiply the inner terms
multiply the last terms
first means the first term of each
outer is the ones tht are outside
inner is obous
last is oposite of first so
lets say you had
(x+y)(z+t)
first
x times z
outer
x times t
inner
y times z
last
y times t
then add them
so
(x+7)(3x-2)
first
x times 3x=3x^2
outer
x times -2=-2x
inner
7 times 3x=21x
outer
7 times -2=-14
add them all up
3x^2+-2x+21x+-14
3x^2+19x-14
