The battle that contributed to the British decision to fall back to Yorktown was B. The Battle of Cowpens

American forces under Brigadier General Daniel Morgan had arrived around the town of Cowpens to look for supplies and the British mistook this to mean that they wanted to attack some important locations and so resolved to defeat them.

  • A British force was sent against Morgan who decided to withdraw at first but then make a stand in January 17, 1781.
  • The British attacked Morgan's men tired and without a plan and Morgan defeated them with ease.

This defeat forced the British to fall back to Yorktown where they were defeated under General Charles Cornwallis.
