Poe believed that good short stories require a single, unifying effect. Evaluate one of the stories in Unit 2 using Poe’s standard of unity. Do the descriptions, incidents, and images all contribute to the single effect of the story? Is there a single effect? Feel free to evaluate Poe’s own story.

Answer :

he had three main points :

- Length, the duration it needed to read the story

- The province, is whether you read the story straight to the end or you have to come back and read it another time

- The tone of the story, whether the story is personally interesting for you

Hope this helps

Answer:

Poe was the first writer to conceive the strict unit of a short story, and he gave life to this theory.

For Poe the short tale differed from the novel in aiming at a unique effect, Poe's statement: A short story must have a single mood. this was confrrmed while Poe was reviewing Hawthorne's stories.
