Write an equation of the line through the point (-3,-8) and perpendicular to the line x = -7.

Answer :

The slope of the x = - 7 equals infinite...

We know that the slopes of the perpendicular lines are inverse and symmetrical to each other ;

So ;

[tex](slope) \times \infty = - 1[/tex]

[tex]slope = - \frac{1}{ \infty } \\ [/tex]

[tex]slope = 0[/tex]

This the slope of the line.....

We have following equation to find the line :

[tex]y - y(through \: point) = (slope) \times ( \: x - x(t \:p) \: ) \\ [/tex]

Now just need to put the coordinates and the slope ;

Look :

[tex]y - ( - 8) = 0 \times (x - ( - 3))[/tex]

[tex]y + 8 = 0[/tex]

[tex]y = - 8[/tex]

And we're done....

Thanks for watching buddy good luck.
