Min tapes a piece of string to each of two ping-pong balls. He hangs the balls so that they are close to one another but do not touch. Later, he finds that they have pulled together. They are now touching. What could explain why two balls are now touching?

A) they have both lost their charges

B) they have gained opposite charges

C) they have both gained a positive charge

D) they have both gained a negative charge

B

If both ping-pong balls had the same charge (such as positive and positive or negative and negative) they would still repel each other, which explains why C and D are incorrect.

Also, opposites attract, so if one was positive while the other was negative they'd attach to one another, which is why B is correct
