Why is it important to be aware of bias when reading history?

I do know a few reasons, but it'd be helpful for someone else's input. Thanks for any help!

Answer :

It is important that people are aware of the bias for us to know which are true and which are fictitious, so that we have proper information of the story, To avoid any misleading information.

this was my answer in my last history essay,
hope it helps :)
historical bias (if I remember right) can skew a lot if information and make things seem worse than they are and vice versa. Opinionated historical evidence can make something seem of lesser value, or can be 'beefed up' with elaborate details in favor of the person relating the event.
