When Napoleon took over Spain, there was a lot of resentment among the people of Spain who viewed him as a betrayer and a conqueror.

As a result, they resisted his rule and set up guerilla armies to fight him which cost the French many men.

Spain also formed juntas which were local governments that had allegiance to King Ferdinand not Napoleon.
