For centuries, tales of a ruthless,
gigantic sea monster frightened and
excited sailors. The Kraken (legendary
sea monster) was said to live in the
Nordic Seas. He haunted the seas from
Norway, past Iceland, and all the way
to Greenland. The monster attacked
naval ships with its strong arms. If it
failed to wrestle the ship to the sea, it
would circle it and pull the ship down in
its vortex. Legend has it the Kraken
was the size of a small island and could
eat the entire crew of a ship at once.
