Answer :

The number of customers who visit the store each hour on a Saturday are 15, 23, 12, 28, 20, 18, and 23.Arranging the numbers in ascending order we have:12,15,18,20,23,23,28.he Median is the "middle" of a sorted list of numbers.

The median of the  data is the middle number that is 20. We need to find number of customers who  visited the store during the eighth hour so that  the median number of customers per hour do not change .If we add the eighth number the median will be the average of the fourth and fifth number. To keep the median 20 we add 20 digit as the eight number so that the middle numbers are 20 and 20 andthe average of these numbers will be 20 making median 20.

The numbers thus will be 12,15,18,20,20,23,23,28 .Median = (20+20)÷2=20.

The number of customers who visited the store during the eighth hour if the median number of customers per hour did not change is 20.

What is Median?

The median is the middle value of an entire data set. If the number of data points(observations) in the set is odd then the middle value is the median but, for an even number of observations, the median is calculated by finding the means for the two middle data points.

Given to us

  • Tristan records the number of customers representing the first seven hours as 15, 23, 12, 28, 20, 18, and 23.

Median for the first seven hours

15, 23, 12, 28, 20, 18, and 23.,

sorting the data points

12, 15, 18, 20, 23, 23, 28

As there are 7 data points the median will be the 4th data point as there are 3 data points before and 3 data points afterward. therefore, the median is 28.

Median if the eighth hour is included

As it is given, if the eighth hour is included the median of the data doesn't change. therefore, the median of the data set will be 20, so that the mean of both 4th and 5th points is equal to 20.

12, 15, 18, 20, 20, 23, 23, 28

hence, the number of customers who visited the store during the eighth hour if the median number of customers per hour did not change is 20.
