Mike wants to make meatloaf. His recipe uses a total of 3 pounds of meat. If he uses a 3 to 1 ratio of beef to pork, how much pork will he use? Enter your answer as a mixed number in simplest terms.

Answer :

We can do it 2 ways
First way
1) We have (3+1)= 4 parts of meat
2) 3 pounds is 4 parts, one part is 3/4(pounds)
3) So, pork is one part , and Mike needs 3/4 pounds of pork

Second way
beef/pork =3/1,
If pork  is x pounds, then 3x pounds  is beef.
Altogether,
x+3x =3
4x=3
x=3/4
Answer 3/4 pounds of pork.

If you need, enter your answer as a mixed number in simplest terms.
