The Iran-Contra scandal involved the United States of America whose government sold weapons to Iran which was forbidden since it was under an embargo. The money earned from these weapons was used to fund Contras in Nicaragua and to negotiate for the release of US hostages. This was all highly unethical and in many aspects even illegal.
